Scott Ainslie’s BluesNotes e-list

Thanks for signing up for our secure e-list.

We all spend more time than we’d probably like looking at these screens, so I use the list sparingly. You can expect two or three messages per year. They will fall into one of three categories:

  • New Releases

As new products become available, we’ll announce them here first, with advance sales opportunites and a brief description.

  • BluesNotes Essays

These essays are generally drawn from my reading and research into African and American history as it pertains to understanding Blues, African-American, and now American culture and music. If the essay is more than would suit an email format, I’ll put a teaser paragraph or two and a link to the Cattail website, where the BluesNotes are archived.

  • Gigs or Tours in your region

We ask for your zipcode and address so that I can sort the list geographically when I have appearances or workshops in your region.

My calendar is always available at cattailmusic.com. There is no need to send you a message in California for a tour in North Carolina. I’d just as soon save you the screen time and do my part to cut down on the email traffic.

Should you ever want to change your preferred address with us or be removed from the list for any reason, please email me citing the current address we have and the change you would like and we will tend to it.

My thanks and best wishes,
s.

The Cattail Music Guarantee:

We are proud to stand behind the music and products that we distribute. If there is any problem with a CD or instructional DVD, please notify us. We will replace defective merchandise immediately. Our relationship with you as a loyal music lover is more important than a piece of plastic (even if we did spend tens of thousands of dollars to put that music on there!). We have ongoing relationships with many customers and look forward to developing one with you, as well.

Hal Leonard Signature Licks DVDs

Hal Leonard Corporation, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, is the manufacturer and wholesale distributor of this DVD. Purchasing this DVD from us here at Cattail Music, Ltd, gives us a chance to profit as the retailer and, if you'd like to endorse or autograph the product, according to your instructions. If there is any problem with the manufacture of a DVD, please return it to the retailer and ask for a replacement. If that's us, we'll get your replacement out to you as soon as the defective DVD arrives.

Manufacturing at DiscMakers.com

We use DiscMakers for our CD manufacturing. They have an excellent reputation and track record. In thirteen years, and thousands of sales at concerts and on line, I’ve had one faulty CD returned. We pay a little more for our manufacturing and we expect (and get more) for it. DiscMakers is a fine company and we recommend their services. Everything is done in-house, nothing is subcontracted out. The folks at DiscMakers are also nice. We have never had a problem with them, but if one occurred, we know they’d make it right. So will we.

The BluesNotes E-list

A few years back I started sending out occasional essays, commentaries and profiles of books that I found of interest as I read and researched about Blues:  its history, personalities, cultural lineage, social and political contexts. These posts are archived as "BluesNotes" on our http://cattailmusic.com site.

I also send out notices of regional tours and new releases. You can expect to receive two or three messages per year from us, typically they are under a page. If an essay is longer, we'll have a teaser with a link to the rest of the essay which will be available in full on line. These often lead to interesting email conversations. And a longer list of books that have been recommended to me by folks like you.

Like so much else, the web is a limited resource to be used lightly. I typically sort the BluesNotes list geographically when I send notice of tours, so you won't hear from me at your home in Florida encouraging you to come to my gig in California. The calendar is always on line at the cattailmusic.com site and if you are traveling, you can check to see if somehow we'll be in the same place at the same time. Stranger things have happened, believe me.

You can change or remove an address from our list by sending an email citing the address we now have for you with your request. We'll search for it and replace or delete it per your request. No hard feelings. We're all busy and these screens are taking way too much time away from the artist inside you and me.

Estimates are that more than 80% of email traffic is now SPAM: unwanted and unsolicited.  Our email list is private. Our goal is to use it sparingly and with respect. Your cooperation helps us do that.

The life's blood of an independent artist's career is now intimately related to our interconnectedness using the web, email, and networking sites. We save paper and resources by staying in touch on-line. We thank you for entering into this community of interest with us. Your presence is a gift.

Shipping

Here at Cattail Music, when we are serving addresses in the United States and Canada, we routinely ship by first class mail. Overseas orders are shipped via air mail.

We typically ship orders on the business day following placement. If there will be a delay of any kind, we will apprise you of it. Most orders arrive well within 14 days.

“We can do good. We can make the world a better place. And we can do it with something as ephemeral as music in the air!”

Serving the Community through Music

As a company, Cattail Music works in support of our multi-cultural communities by donating product and peformances for charitable causes, presenting educational programs on the African roots of American music and culture, facilitating live performances, and producing, recording and distributing recordings aimed at deepening our appreciation and awareness of our shared history and culture.

Advancing and Enriching Our Communities

Our efforts are guided by the belief that emotionally authentic music presented with sensitivity to its social and historical contexts will help increase the amount of compassion and empathy within our communities, educating, entertaining and helping to heal us at one and the same time.

Simply put, we are committed to the fact that music can and does change the world. Summing this up in a radio interview in 2004, CEO Scott Ainslie said, “We can do good. We can make the world a better place. And we can do it with something as ephemeral as music in the air.”

Established in Durham, NC in 1995, Cattail Music moved to its current location in 2002. We are a corporation registered and licensed by the State of Vermont and are subject to its laws and regulations.
